One of my favorite parts of summer is our annual trip up North to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to enjoy Summerfest. Not only do my boyfriend, Rick and I get to see some of our favorite music artists, but we also get together with friends we don’t see often. SO much fun!
This year was a bit different from years past as I was extremely concerned about attending a festival for the first time as a vegan. I didn’t think there would be many options for us to eat, so I panicked and stocked up on enough vegan snacks to last us a month. But to my surprise- I didn’t need them because there WERE vegan options. Keep reading to learn more!
Our favorite option had to be the Beyond Burger at AJ Bombers. We simply ordered the burger without cheese and enjoyed with a side of crispy tater tots. (We’d be lying if we said we each just ate one 🙂 )In addition to these delicious burgers, Summerfest offered snacks such as chips and guacamole from Belair Cantina, as well as popcorn and delicious corn on the cob. For my corn on the cob- I asked for no butter and I sprinkled all over with seasoned salt.
The morning after our first day at Summerfest, we were in rough shape and were definitely hungry for breakfast (or lunch based off the time we woke up 😉 Don’t judge us.)After some diligent research, I decided we had to try a vegan restaurant called Beerline Cafe. I couldn’t have been happier with the decision to visit. The atmosphere, service, and food was incredible. I think Rick and I spent at least a half hour looking at the menu because we just couldn’t decide what to eat… I ended up picking the Fromage Sandwich (right), it had smoky vegan gouda, vegan cheddar, their signature house-made cheese sauce, sliced tomato, and avocado all on a grilled garlic bread. Rick had the Chick’n Salad Sandwich (left), which had almonds and chickpeas mixed with a vegan mayo, green apple, dried cranberry, celery, red onion, jalapeno, garlic, and sage along with fresh tomato and spinach.
We ended our Summerfest adventure with a Luke Combs/ Blake Shelton concert (Yes, we are country fans!) It was so much fun and we most definitely did NOT starve during our trip. We can’t wait for next year!
